Tweet Character Counter
Count characters as you type and stay under X’s 280 limit.
About this tool
Type or paste a post and watch the count against X’s 280-character limit, with the word count and how far over you are. Handy for tightening a hook before it goes out.
FAQ
What is the character limit on X (Twitter)?
280 for a standard post. Accounts with X Premium can post longer, but anything past 280 is folded behind a "Show more" on the timeline, so the first 280 still matter most.
Do links count toward the 280 characters?
Yes, and always as 23 characters, however long the link really is, because X shortens every link through t.co. A bare domain X turns into a link, like example.com, also costs 23. This counter uses the same rule.
Do emoji count as one character?
No. X counts every emoji as 2 characters, including emoji built from several code points like flags or skin tones. Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters also count 2. This counter weighs them the same way.
Why does my count differ from other counters?
Most counters just count characters. X weighs links, emoji and some scripts differently, so a simple counter can tell you a post fits when X will reject it, or the other way round.
