Social Media Image Sizes
Image, video, profile and header sizes for each platform, with the source for every number.
X
X publishes formats and a file-size cap for still images but no recommended pixel dimensions at all.
Also capped at 350 frames, and at 300 million for width times height times frame count. Up to 15 MB.
125 minutes on a Premium or verified account.
16 GB on a Premium or verified account.
JPG, PNG, GIF, WEBP · images up to 5 MB, animated GIF up to 15 MB · video MP4 with H264 High Profile and AAC LC, 60 FPS or less, aspect ratio 1:3 to 3:1, resolution 32 x 32 to 1280 x 1024

Minimum width 320 px. The ratio is a range, not a size — anything outside it is rejected by the API rather than cropped.
Every slide is cropped to the first image’s ratio, so the first image decides the whole carousel.
3 seconds to 15 minutes, 23–60 FPS. A cover image that is not 9:16 is cropped to its middle 9:16 rectangle.
3 to 60 seconds.
JPEG only for images, up to 8 MB — PNG is not accepted by the publishing API · MP4 or MOV video, H264 or HEVC with AAC audio

Below 600 x 315 px the link renders as a small thumbnail instead of a large image. 200 x 200 px is the absolute minimum.
The Graph API caps Page photo uploads at 4 MB — half the 8 MB allowed for a link preview image — and advises keeping PNGs under 1 MB.
3 to 90 seconds, 24–60 FPS, fixed frame rate and progressive scan.
JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF · link preview image up to 8 MB, Page photo upload up to 4 MB · MP4 video with H264 or H265 and AAC LC audio

Must be more than 200 px wide or LinkedIn renders it as a small thumbnail.
Anything from 400 x 400 up to 7680 x 4320 px is accepted, max 8 MB. GIFs are rejected.
JPG or PNG under 8 MB.
Minimum 268 x 268 px.
LinkedIn lists this as both the minimum and the recommended size — there is no larger option for Page covers.
Minimum 264 x 176 px.
PNG or JPEG · Page and Career Page images up to 3 MB; profile photo and profile cover image up to 8 MB

TikTok
TikTok publishes minimum and maximum bounds rather than a recommended size.
The API ceiling. An individual account may have a lower in-app limit depending on its status.
JPEG or WebP photos, up to 20 MB each · MP4 (recommended), WebM or MOV video with H264, H265, VP8 or VP9, 23–60 FPS, up to 4 GB

YouTube
Upload something larger — the 98 px figure is the display size, not an upload limit. Max 15 MB, no animated GIFs.
Only the central 1235 x 338 px is safe for text and logos; everything outside it is cropped on smaller devices.
Must be square and under 1 MB.
Never add your own padding or black bars — that stops YouTube resizing the player to fit the video.
JPG, GIF, BMP or PNG · banner up to 6 MB, profile picture up to 15 MB, watermark under 1 MB

Up to 20 MB uploading from desktop, 32 MB from the app.
2 to 5 images, and every image in the carousel must share the same ratio.
4 seconds to 15 minutes; Pinterest recommends 6 to 15 seconds.

Threads
Minimum width 320 px — narrower images are scaled up, wider ones scaled down.

JPEG or PNG images up to 8 MB · MP4 or MOV video with H264 or HEVC and AAC audio, up to 1 GB

Bluesky
The prose on this page still says 1,000,000 bytes while the code sample on the same page, and the app.bsky.embed.images lexicon it cites, both say 2,000,000.
Bluesky recommends no dimensions. Posts carry an aspectRatio hint; if you do not know the real ratio, leave it undefined rather than guessing.
MP4 only. No duration limit is documented; the video service applies its own per-account daily posting limits, and the account email must be verified first. Size limit from the app.bsky.embed.video lexicon this page defers to.
Any image type, up to 2 MB each and 4 per post · MP4 video up to 300 MB

Mastodon
Four images per post. 8.3 MP is roughly 3840 x 2160, so anything larger is resized on upload.
One per post, up to 16 MB, and converted to a soundless MP4. Static GIFs get the same limits.
Downscaled to 400 x 400 after upload, max 2 MB.
Downscaled to 1500 x 500 after upload, max 2 MB.
One per post. Transcoded to H264 MP4 at up to 1300 kbps.
PNG, JPG, HEIF, WEBP or AVIF images up to 16 MB · MP4, M4V, MOV or WebM video up to 99 MB · avatar and header up to 2 MB, also WEBP, PNG, GIF or JPG

Telegram
Width-to-height ratio must be at most 20. Up to 10 MB uploaded directly, but only 5 MB if Telegram fetches it from a URL.
An exact requirement, not a recommendation. Max 10 MB, and it cannot be reused from an existing file id.
The cloud Bot API limit. A self-hosted local Bot API server raises it to 2000 MB.
Must be H265 in MP4, streamable, with a key frame every second. Max 30 MB and 60 seconds.
These are Bot API limits, not the Telegram apps’ own: photos up to 10 MB by upload or 5 MB by URL, other files up to 50 MB, and downloads capped at 20 MB

Tumblr
Stay within 540 px wide or the dashboard scales the image down. The click-through version can be up to 2048 x 3072 px.
Under 3 MB it is not compressed at all; a compressed GIF must be under 5 MB, an uncompressed one under 10 MB. All GIFs are converted to GIFV.
A GIF avatar is accepted but flattened to a static JPEG, PNG or WEBP.
JPEG, PNG or WEBP in RGB — CMYK files are rejected — up to 20 MB · avatar and header up to 10 MB · 10 images per post from the apps, 30 from the web

Discord
The default for every user. Nitro, or a server’s Boost Tier, raises it — the effective ceiling is the higher of the two.
Discord re-renders uploaded images at these sizes through a ?size= parameter on the CDN URL, and publishes no recommended upload dimensions.
JPEG, PNG, WebP and GIF (plus Lottie JSON for stickers). Animated WebP or AVIF does not convert cleanly to GIF, so request animated images as WebP

What is missing, and why
Reddit is absent: none of its own documentation pages could be read — they refuse non-browser clients. A few individual rows are missing for the same reason, including X’s and Instagram’s profile-picture sizes and Facebook’s cover photo. The numbers everyone quotes for those are real enough, but they are not on a page we could cite, and a sourced page that guesses once is not a sourced page.
About this tool
Feed images, profile pictures, headers, stories and video for the major platforms, each read from the platform’s own help centre or developer docs, with the date it was checked and a link on every card. Where a platform’s own documentation disagrees with itself, the card says so instead of picking a number.
